As the time of His departure was coming closer, Jesus issued to those who were with Him and generations to come a new command to love one another.  He said that this would be the way that people would know that we who profess Him as Lord of our life are His disciples.  What great wisdom He shows us because He had already explained on another occasion that the Greatest Commandment was to love the Lord and to love your neighbor just as you love yourself.  All of the laws, all of the rules, all of the standards that we establish can be processed through the filter of authentic love.   Others have tried to remove God from this process by telling us that we cannot love someone else unless we first love ourselves.  Unconditional love has its foundation in the love that God has for us.  In spite of our faults, sins, or disobedience, God continues to extend His love to us.  Show the world who you follow today by doing something from a perspective of authentic love that does not look to be paid back.

Four Letter Words that God would want us to use and do:

LOVE: the kind that does something in spite of, not because of.

PRAY: about everything, no matter how small or big, it is always good to have a little talk with God.

TALK: so that your conversation would be worthy of the citizenship that you have in Heaven.

HEAR:  what the voice of the Lord is saying to you, not someone else.

WALK: by faith, because if you can see it, that’s not faith.

HOPE: built on nothing less than Jesus’ Blood and His Righteousness. 

REST: if it was good enough for God to do on the seventh day, then who are we to think that we are better than Him.

Who are you?  How each person answers this question will determine the course of their life.  Since this is such a critical question to answer, it is of the utmost importance that we be honest with ourselves.   Speaking the truth in love is not just something we should say to others but also in the mirror.  So as we ponder who we are, remember to start with the perspective of the One who made us because what we become will ultimately be a part of His divine purpose for our life and the time in which we live.

Day 3: FORGIVENESS

“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

MATTHEW 6:14-15

PRAYER

Lord, though we fail You over and over again You are
patient, gentle, and kind toward us. Thank You for Your
faithful hand that leads us back to Your love and Your
forgiveness and compassion that never runs out. May we live as a reflection of You, that may we deal with each other and those around us with compassion and gentleness. Teach us to forgive those around us like You have forgiven us. Help us to not allow resentment to build or unforgiveness to linger. Help us to extend grace and walk in humility as we acknowledge our need for Your constant flow of it in our lives. Help us to be a source of encouragement and replace condemnation with love and forgiveness.

EPHESIANS 4:2-3

PRAYER

Dear God, we pray that we would be eager to maintain
unity in our home. Teach us to bear with each in love
in every circumstance we face. Thank You that in every
decision and situation we have Your Word as our guide.
In areas where the enemy would try to divide us, our
finances, our careers, our time, our priorities, we pray that
we seek Your will above our personal requests. Replace
selfishness with humility, resentment with compassion,
anger with gentleness, and conflict with peace. Make us
one, Lord, in every area and in every decision. We submit
our agenda for Your greater purpose. We let down our
guard, surrender our desires and rely on Your strength
to bind us together for Your eternal glory. Let our union
exude Your presence and grow in us as a testimony of
Your faithfulness.

When you find yourself in a position that requires the need for assistance, where do you get it?  Some turn to their parents or brothers and sisters.  Others may turn to their friends or associates in times of need.  While others may turn to hobbies, addictions or activities as they wait.  The reality is that none of these work in every situation.  Situational solutions applied in the wrong situation only add to the challenges and the stress that has been created.  Believers benefit from the assurance that God’s Love is available all the time.  The best part about His Love is that it does not requires any special    circumstances for us to access it.  1 Corinthians 13 expresses the attributes of the kind of love that God has for us and concludes that love endures all things and never fails.  Who needs situational solutions when the Creator of all things is available?

“We are what we eat!” So declares the nutrition charts we see in our schools and doctors’ offices.  An old story says that if there are two dogs in your yard and if they should get into a fight, the one that will be victorious is the one that you feed the most.  There is a battle raging within each of us between two natures or forces that cannot agree.  God places His Spirit within the heart of every believer which confirms that there is precious cargo within these poor vessels.  Satan is constantly trying to convince us to part from what God has given to us.  He will come at us through our eyes, ears, nose, hands and mouth without regard to the damage that he does to you and all those around you.  Fortunately, God has declared that once we are in His hands there is nothing that can take us out of them.  The Spirit that is within us will only respond to what the Word of God says, therefore, let’s make every effort to continue to feed our bodies with the Bread of Heaven.

God is searching throughout the world for those whose heart is committed to Him so that He may strengthen them.  Committing to God is best expressed in how much we trust what He says and then how we behave.  There will always be a time and a place for everything.  God has created a way to balance things that exist.  Scriptures says that we shall reap or receive what it is that we have sown or given.  This is the greatness that God has in the plan that exists for each of our lives.  No matter how much we would like to have, it will depend upon how much we are willing to give.  It could very well mean that today, even right now, there is something that you can do to improve what it is that you receive as a reward to your faithfulness to God.

The value of sharing can never be overstated.  When we share our thoughts, greater understanding is attained.  When we share our abilities, greater accomplishments occur.  When we share our lives, greater is the ability to deal with life circumstances.  When we share our faith, greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.  When we share our concerns, greater is the available options.  When we share our love, greater needs can be met.  When we share our life, greater is the value given to the one we have.  God knew that in order for us to live He had to share himself with us.  The words shared by the prophet Habakkuk illustrates this when we are encouraged to write the vision we have so that others can run with power and perseverance to complete the task that God has laid out for them, individually and collectively.  Your visions and dreams can come to reality when you are connected to the plan God has for you and are surrounded by others who make fulfilling God’s Will a priority of their life.

Love has the unique capacity to lift and lecture at the same time.  It is beyond comprehension what the limits of love are.  Love gives far more than it takes, and yet, it takes more from whom it has given so much.  When the Bible declares that God is Love we see that He has   given far more to us who have taken so much from Him.  We can never equal the level of love that God has shown to us but we certainly can make every effort to show our appreciation to Him by showing love to one another.  Love takes up the slack in the line.  Love fills the half full cup with optimism.  Loves always sees the possibility to be better.  God assures us that love never fails.  So, whatever you are about to do, be sure that the fuel and motivation that you use is LOVE.
