As a child there were times of the year that we invested in some top to bottom cleaning of our house. Some of us called it ‘Spring Cleaning’ as we began the process of transforming the house from the décor of one season and getting it ready for the next one. Spiritually, it is just as important for us to take stock of ourselves as we grow in our relationship with God and begin to take on new tasks and responsibilities. Just as there are some things that you cannot take from Winter into Spring, there are things that should not go forward from a spiritually immature position to a mature one. 1 Corinthians 13 says that when I became a man I put away childish things, and there are always childish things that we should leave behind. Though we often dreaded the coming of the big ‘Spring Cleaning’ we always enjoyed the results that produced a refreshed and orderly house. God wants to refresh and renew us if we would just let Him in to the parts of our lives that we have labeled ‘off limits’. When we reflect on all of the times that we have truly let God in, we have experienced the joy of His blessings and favor. There is no need to be in distress about letting Him in to the other rooms in our life.
